Are We Living in a Special Time? Observations on Privacy, Environmental Laws, and Everyday Contradictions

Are we truly benefiting from modern privacy laws and environmental regulations, or are we just going through the motions? From low-flying “tourist” planes over nature reserves like De Stulp in Baarn, to the contradiction of banning plastic bags while wrapping produce and clothing in plastic, our society seems full of double standards. Questions about privacy legislation, environmental policies, and the commercialization of sustainability challenge how genuinely we address these issues. Are noise regulations and eco-rules truly protecting us—or just another way to profit from public concerns?

Are we living in a special time?

As you know by now, I write a lot about the things I observe every day in our world. For example, I then talk about the various things that I think we agree with each other, but then we do “nothing” with them.

Are you familiar with privacy legislation?

Think of the privacy legislation, we are no longer allowed to know anything about each other, so that in some situations even people who are treated in care are in need of life due to the lack of life-saving information, we are no longer allowed to photograph each other without each other’s explicit permission, but at the place in Baarn near the nature reserve “De Stulp” many “private” planes with “tourists” fly low over every day to see our enjoyment of life without a privacy permit.

What do you know about the environmental madness?

Think of the environmental madness to which we expose ourselves every day. A shopkeeper is no longer allowed to offer us a Plastic bag from the point of view of service, we have to buy this for too much money in my opinion. But look around with your own eyes in those same stores, what do you see in that same store wrapped in plastic, that you as a consumer can never buy without that packaging and the commercial expressions of the producer of that product? In the villages and towns around my hometown there are many of the greengrocers you probably know, you know them, they have large racks of fruit and vegetables in front of their shops, and inside the shop there is much more of all that goodness. Often these merchants also sell other products such as cheese and delicious fresh nuts.

Is plastic really that bad for our environment?

But do you ever notice what all these delicacies are packed in? Cheese in my neighbourhood is often vacuum-packed in thick plastic, and those oven-delicious nuts in hard plastic containers. I have a family member who works in the clothing industry, he often tells me that clothing is also delivered to them individually wrapped in plastic.

Is there money to be made from our environment?

When I think further about the conditions in which we currently live in our “lying” world, I often have to laugh very loudly to myself about the so-called noise standards, the scientists often call them in decibels. Do you ever listen to the motorcyclists racing past you, or that privacy-violating low-flying single-engine planes? Wonderful that privacy, and environmental protection measures, don’t you think? Would anyone make any money from this, do you think?
