Picture: History repeat (Gemini)

Do you like me,recognize the feeling when you are looking at one of your favorite television series, and suddenly it seems as if you recognized the present in it? Well I mean that I look at a television series from 2012 and my brains give me the feeling that I find myself in 2026 (the present). I was looking at one of my favorite hospital series “Grey’s Anatomy” a hospital series that is recorded (or gives the feeling that it is recorded) in Seattle (USA). It was series nine and episode fourteen.

Hospital Privatization & Financial Efficiency

In this series a scene occurs in which in the hospital concerned the treatments of the patients become too expensive, cuts must be made. The appearance is maintained by an external consultant that the emergency department of this hospital must be closed for cost-technical reasons. A bit further in the same episode of this series it appears that for the same reason the entire hospital is being offered for sale. For cost-technical reasons? The care that is performed there is too expensive. Do you recognize this also in your current environment in the year 2026? And do you also remember the piece that I have written about the period around 1974, my story about the messages that the pop music tries to tell us again and again?

Environmental Awareness & Cultural History

Grazy Horses a song of the well-known (?) Mormon Osmond Brothers from the American Utah? The hit from the old box that is not about “crazy horses”, but about fast environment-polluting cars? In the famous hospital series on the television was also in a certain scene by the different excellent actors spoken about the fact that the anamnesis of a patient (the determination of the disease) not more than fifteen minutes were allowed to be spent. Does it sound to you also in the current time (2026) familiar in the ears?

Medical Ethics & Patient Care Limits

Well I could do nothing about it but had to think immediately that old times revive. If you study the history a little bit, which I regularly do, then you are “unfortunately” going to find more and more of these “repetition effects”. You must thus apparently become a bit older and pay good attention and dare to look back to get through that we as human “maybe” indeed time and again are placed for the same facts. I thought: ”are we humans now so hard-learning, or must we in a certain way time and again be kept in check, or be convinced of the ever again returning reality?

Historical Patterns & Cyclical Reality

What is that then? Do we stay so stubbornly bad dealing with the available money, and our health, or is there a “movement” behind it that tries to steer us as humans every time again by means of fear, are we just like in the film “The Matrix”, “puppets on a string”? Do you know it, or am I the only one who time and again sees or lays these kinds of connections? Take now last week, I am sent by the my treating doctors to a according to them high in regard and very specialized clinic for a not further by me to name investigation. It is only an eighty kilometer drive from my place of residence, and because I am no longer allowed to drive a car, my wife Monique brings me with her car to this clinic.

Patient Experience & Clinical Welcome

We could find the address easily, and were thus amply on time present at the location. We were at the reception of the institute concerned neatly helped and welcomed, and there was a coffee machine where we could take a free snack. Just when we started to feel welcome and at our ease, my name was called. It turned out to be the “treating” physician who had to take the anamnesis from me. Now you must know before I go further that I had already filled in several forms at home beforehand with relevant information. Yet it seemed as if the “physician” who warmly welcomed us, a Dutch white lady, with dreadlocks and minimally all colors of the rainbow in her clothing, had read nothing of it.

Doctor-Patient Interaction & Time Constraints

The “physician” asked me again the questions that I had already filled in on paper at home, but if I gave an answer that was a bit too long in her eyes then she interrupted me repeatedly in a particularly unfriendly manner. A way of which my much too early deceased mother would say: “where even the dogs would not want to eat bread from.” The doctor made it increasingly worse, and gave me an unsolicited diet tip, whereby she looked reproachfully at my wife. (Because she according to her also had to go on a diet?) At a certain moment the doctor said that she had no time for much explanation from my side because she did have to have her anamnesis about me finished within an hour, she received no more time from her management available for this diagnosis.

Institutional Trust & Individual Health Autonomy

I can tell you that while I pulled the door of this clinic locked behind me I immediately knew that I did not find this way of treating pleasant and did not trust it. We, my wife and I felt very humiliated and insulted by this doctor and this specialized clinic. The day after I have in writing terminated the trust in this doctor and clinic, perhaps indeed at the expense of my own health. But well, I could have known this already in 1974 if I had paid better attention during my life right? We say in my country the Netherlands sometimes to each other: ”A donkey does not hit itself twice against the same stone.” But if you already see something coming in 1974, and after that it is repeated again in a television series from 2012, then you must indeed know that actually nothing has changed in our world, despite that we as humans gladly want it, and have much for it right? Who actually pulls the strings in “The Matrix”, do you know?
